Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland suffered a left hamstring strain in late June, and at the time it was said he’d be out from four to six weeks.
Rangers Activate Mitch Moreland From Disabled List
That turned out to be an accurate estimate; five weeks later, Moreland is back, according to a press release from the team:
The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has reinstated first baseman/outfielder Mitch Moreland from the 15-day disabled list. To make room for Moreland on the active roster, the club has optioned outfielder Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock.
Moreland was having his best overall season in the major leagues when he went down, hitting .272/.326/.513 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 55 games. He went 5-for-19 in a five-game rehab assignment.
In Moreland’s absence the Rangers have primarily been using Michael Young at first base; presumably, Young will go back to the DH spot.
