Kevin Love Wants More Talent In Minnesota

The Timberwolves All-Star PF said the team needs to make the playoffs next year.

Presswire

Kevin Love, the Minnesota Timberwolves' All-Star power forward, is frustrated with the personnel around him in Minnesota, as the Timberwolves have never even made the playoffs in his five-year tenure with the team:

“My patience is not high,” Love said. “Would yours be, especially when I’m a big proponent of greatness surrounding itself with greatness? All these [Team USA] guys seem to have great players around them.

“It’s tough seeing all these guys that are young and older who have all played in the playoffs. When they start talking about that, I have nothing to talk about. If I don’t make the playoffs next year I don’t know what will happen.”

Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

Over the last two decades, Minnesota has been one of the most consistently poorly-run organizations in the NBA, asides from stumbling into two Kevins (Garnett and Love) in the NBA Draft.

The names have change but the story hasn’t: Both developed into All-Star caliber players in the Twin Cities despite a dramatic lack of talent around them.

The Timberwolves' recent draft history, besides Love and Ricky Rubio (the latter of which is out the first part of 2012 with a knee injury) has not exactly been stellar. In 2009, they took Jonny Flynn (who may already be out of the NBA); in 2010, they took Wesley Johnson (who is widely considered a bust) and in 2011, they took Derrick Williams No. 2 overall (who they are already shopping in trade discussions).

Long story short, Love’s tenure in Minnesota may not turn out any more successfully than Garnett’s did.
