Wisconsin running back and 2011 Heisman finalist Montee Ball suffered a concussion and facial injuries Wednesday morning in what Madison police are calling an "unprovoked assault."
Wisconsin running back Montee Ball sustains concussion in unprovoked assault

Ball was reportedly jumped by five men at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday while walking on Wisconsin’s campus. Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema expects Ball to make a full recovery from his injuries. Ball was released from the hospital on Wednesday, but there is no timetable for the running back’s return.
The Badgers’ offense ran through Ball in 2011, as the talented tailback racked up over 2,200 total yards and 39 touchdowns on his way to becoming a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Ball returned for his senior season at Wisconsin in hopes of improving his stock for the 2013 NFL Draft.
This is tough news for Ball and Wisconsin football. Hopefully more details will emerge from this case, but for now, this looks like a senseless crime that could damage a promising football career. Here’s hoping Ball makes a speedy recovery.
