The easy answer to the question of which Division-I head coach has bolstered his street cred the most over the past year is John Calipari. The leader of Big Blue Nation made waves by winning his first national title and then producing the No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the NBA Draft. But what if I told you the actual answer was Notre Dame’s Mike Brey?
First, his name was utilized for a number of “that shit Brey” jokes after Jay-Z and Kanye West released Watch the Throne. Now, Brey’s posing for pictures with 2 Chainz and casually referring to the rapper as “my dawg.”

It’s interesting, because two years ago Brey would have topped my list of “coaches most likely to incorrectly use ‘s’ instead of ‘z’ when typing out a rapper’s name.” The tide turns quickly in the world of major college basketball.
His next move is going to be putting “Mike Brey presents” in front of every Notre Dame basketball event this season.
