West Ham are back in the Premier League and they are doing their best to make sure they stay there with a slew of signings, the latest being Alou Diarra. The Hammers signed the defensive midfielder from Marseille for £2 million on Friday, giving them a 31-year-old midfielder with 44 caps for France to his name.
Alou Diarra Moves To West Ham From Marseille
West Ham continues to do their best to stay in the top flight, this time by signing Alou Diarra from Marseille.
“I am very happy to be here at West Ham - everything is signed now which is gold and I am excited to be here at this club and to be playing for them in the Premier League. I know a lot about West Ham as a club and when I knew they were interested in signing me, I was very happy and knew it would be a good choice for me.”
Diarra has been one of the better midfielders in Ligue 1 for years now, but he showed up to preseason training six days late after spending the summer with France at Euro 2012. That caused some tension between him and the club and made it easier for Marseille to sell, which they now have.
With Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa getting better this summer, it will be tough for any of the newly promoted clubs to stay up this season, West Ham included. But getting a player like Diarra to join their other new signees James Collins and Maiga will give the Hammers a chance to stick in the top flight.
