What To Watch, Day 16: Olympic Marathon, Team USA Plays For Gold

What To Watch on Day 16 at the Summer Olympics, the final day of the Summer Games in London, by the men’s marathon and Team USA playing Spain for basketball gold.

The 2012 Summer Olympics reaches its conclusion Sunday afternoon, and it saved some of the best for last.

The day begins with the men’s marathon, one of the Games’ most famous events, and has a trio of Americans looking to challenge the East Africans for medals. That’s followed by the gold medal game in men’s basketball, with Team USA meeting a dangerous Spain squad in a rematch from the final in Beijing. And then the day is closed with (obviously) the Closing Ceremony.

Not only will it be live-streamed online, but it will also feature both The Who and the Spice Girls. Will jokes be told on Twitter? Oh, jokes will be told on Twitter.

What To Watch on Day 16 at 2012 Summer Olympics:

Men’s Marathon, 6 a.m. ET, NBC

It’s the final day of the Olympics, which means it’s time for the men’s marathon. Team USA is sending its strongest team yet, and Meb Keflezighi, Ryan Hall and Abdihakem Abdirahman all have a legitimate chance at winning a medal, but they’ll be facing two of the strongest Kenyan and Ethiopian teams ever assembled.

Men’s Basketball Bronze Medal Game, Argentina vs. Russia, 6 a.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

If running isn’t your thing, maybe the 2004 silver and 2008 bronze medal winners playing against a surprise Russian team is more your idea of early morning viewing.

Men’s Basketball Gold Medal Game, Team USA vs. Spain, 10 a.m. ET, NBC

Might this be the final time we see NBA players in the Olympics? Team USA plays for its second-straight gold in a rematch of the finals from Beijing. A gold medal would be America’s 14th (in in 18 Games) since basketball was added in 1938. No other country has more than two golds.

Men’s Handball Gold Medal Match, Sweden vs. France, live online at 10 a.m. ET (10:45 a.m., NBC Sports Network)

Hey, remember when this was the Internet’s favorite sport? Is that still happening? If so, here’s the gold medal game.

Men’s Water Polo Gold Medal Final, Croatia vs. Italy, live online at 10:50 a.m. ET (12:30 p.m., NBC)

One of the most grueling sports in all the Olympics reaches its conclusion in the water Sunday afternoon.

Closing Ceremony, 4 p.m. ET (7 p.m., NBC)

While it’s great that NBC is showing this live online, the fact they chose the Closing and not the Opening Ceremony still seems like the ultimate trolling.
