DH? What DH?

The Red Sox sent designated hitter Jarrod Saltalamacchia into the field late in their 14-1 win against Cleveland, meaning they lost their DH and relief pitcher Clayton Mortensen batted, possibly because they could. This is the first time a (non-position player) pitcher made a plate appearance in an American League game since 2010, when Tyson Ross batted in extra innings for the A’s, and won the game too.

↵(Oops. Actually, it happened earlier this month: Aaron Loup batted for the Jays and also lost the game.)
