2012 Western & Southern Open: Murray, Williams Look To Build Off Strong Olympic Showings

The illustrious Western and Southern Open begins Monday with some high profile athletes in attendance.

Presswire

The first round of the men’s and women’s 2012 Western and Southern Open main draw begins Monday with the world’s top tennis stars getting their first taste of action since the Olympic games.

Andy Murray will look to carry his momentum from his three-set drubbing of Roger Federer for the Olympic gold into Cincinnati, as he hopes to repeat as champion of this open as the three seed.

On the women’s side, there will be no repeat as Maria Sharapova dropped out of the field due to a stomach virus. Much like Rafeal Nadal’s absence (knee injury), the lack of a threat like Sharapova clears up the field for other contenders, with Serena Williams playing the role of favorite in many eyes.

The early rounds will be taking place from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET Monday through Wednesday with the live broadcast taking place on Tennis Channel. A live stream can also be viewed at TennisTV.com.

Once it gets down to the round of 16, the coverage moves to ESPN2 through Sunday. The men’s finals will take place on CBS at 12:30 pm ET Sunday with the women’s finals airing shortly after at 4 p.m. on ESPN2.

The full men’s and women’s draws can be found here.
