After getting kicked off the football team the other day in LSU, Mathieu didn’t waste any time. That next day, Tyrann was seen at the McNeese State campus taking a tour, but what is in store for Mathieu? Is he going to be able to find a team, or is he running out of time? Well he does not have a very long time, because most of these teams are already practicing for the upcoming season. The Louisiana State athletic department said yesterday that “HONEYBADGER” cannot play for LSU any time.
What are Tyrann Mathieu’s options?

“He’s permanently ineligible to play football at LSU,” Bahnsen said in a telephone interview Monday afternoon. “That’s definite. That’s what was said Friday.”
So with that being said, check out a few options I believe that Mathieu could come in and become an impact player.
As we know
would be a great asset to any team, but what teams are interested? Well the first night, Mathieu shot down the option of joining Southern because he didn’t want to be in Baton Rouge, LA, so that knocks off one school that is right there in Louisiana. Another Louisiana school wasted no time. McNeese State immediately brought him in, but a source prior to the visit told me that the coaching staff approached star safety
to see if he thought it would be a good fit at McNeese State. With that being said, it shows a ton of respect from the coaches, because Bronson is a sure fire draft pick come next season, and with “Honeybadger” next to him, they could be a powerhouse in Louisiana. This is his best option right now, because they want him to play, but he immediately began trying to weigh his options, thinking if he sits out the entire year, he can rejoin the team, well as you saw above the Athletic director shut that down already. So that option will not be available. If Mathieu decides to sit out a year, he can go to any division 1 school, but if he wants to get in a school and play now, he will have to hurry. I can see these other 3 teams as good options for him in small conferences.
Prairie View A&M - The Panthers are led by the Northern brothers, where the defensive line coach/assistant is Gabe Northern. A former second round pick of the Buffalo Bills, who attended Louisiana State back in the 90’s. Gabe Northern could have a good upper hand in the race for Mathieu because of his connections to LSU, but what intrigues me more is the fact that the secondary coach in PVAMU is Bubba McDowell former NFL safety for the Houston Oilers. He could help with the development of Mathieu.
Jackson State University - JSU always has a tough team, but that is because of the great coaching and players they recruit. Remember JSU is not afraid of taking a player with a history or problem, as they were one of the only school’s to take Casey Thierrault aka “White Tiger” the quarterback who had spent time in jail for a fight that occurred in Michigan. Casey was able to overcome a lot at JSU, and become a very good quarterback in their program. So look out for JSU making a push at Mathieu.
Northwestern State University (LA) - NSU always produces NFL players, which you might not think about but they do. If you remember a few years back the Buffalo Bills were on a streak of taking NSU players. Both Demetress Bell and Terrance McGee are just two players who came out of the school. Watch out for NSU if these other schools fail to get him in before time. NSU could be a team that comes in and picks up the young Tyrann Mathieu.
- If I were advising Mathieu, I would tell him he needs to go to McNeese State and play in the backfield with Malcolm Bronson. That team could be a huge force in Louisiana and put McNeese State over the top. There secondary would consist of Mathieu, Malcolm Bronson, Seth Thomas and Ryan Bronson, this would be a very good look.
