Mike Aresco To Be Named New Big East Commissioner, According To Reports

The Big East Conference has found its new commissioner in former CBS VP Mike Aresco.

The Big East Conference has finally, but unofficially, found its new commissioner. According to Mark Blaudschun of a NewJerseyGuy.com, the league is set to name CBS VP Mike Aresco as its new commissioner. The news was confirmed by ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.

The official hiring of Aresco is expected to come later Tuesday. Aresco will replace interim commissioner Joseph Bailey III, who has been the headman since the resignation of John Marinatto in May.

“They kept it a secret until the final moments when the Big East Presidents sealed the deal with a conference call,” wrote Blaudschun Tuesday.

Aresco, who has been with CBS since ‘96, was a big part in the networks’ properties, “including contract negotiations and future acquisitions for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, regular season college basketball and football and bowl games.”

Aresco’s background is expected to help the league garner a better television contract and ease its transition of adding Central Florida, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Temple, Boise State, San Diego State and Navy in the upcoming years.
