Ashley Cole Hands Over His Community Shield Medal To Young Manchester City Fan

For most people, 'Ashley Cole' is not a name that would immediately be assosciated with altruism, kind-heartedness, charity, or... well, pick pretty much any virtue you like, to be honest. Not anymore, though - after suffering defeat to Manchester City 3-2 in the Community Shield at the weekend, the Chelsea left-back decided to hand his medal over to a young Manchester City fan.

As Cole walked past Manchester City fans at the end of the game, he spotted Bailey McColgan, seven, and seemingly randomly handed the youngster his medal, saying “That’s for you!”

A friend’s dad has apparently offered McColgan £500 for the medal, but the youngster has refused, and according to his mother, “wouldn’t sell it for a million pounds.”

Whether this will ever deflect from the infamous “I almost crashed my car in fury” quotes from Cole’s autobiography seems highly unlikely, but maybe it will stop a few people from calling him ‘Cashley’ at least. The boy’s father would seem to agree: “A lot of stuff gets said about Ashley Cole, but this speaks volumes for him. It paints football in a different light.”
