Former Florida running back and London 2012 silver-medalist sprinter Jeff Demps has drawn interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Pewter Report.

Demps decided to forgo the 2012 NFL Draft to pursue his Olympic career, but has since shown interest in playing football again. The Buccaneers are the only team reported to have interest, though other teams are likely kicking the tires as well.
But just how useful will Demps be in the NFL? He obviously has incredible straight line speed, but he was never a particularly useful as a running back. In four years as a Gator, he never rushed for more than 750 yards in a single season and never amassed more than touchdowns on the ground. He wasn’t much more useful out of the backfield or in the return game, either.
The Buccaneers envision him as a slot receiver, according to Pewter Report. If used correctly, his speed certainly could be a weapon, but there’s more to football than speed. I’m not convinced he’ll be much of a factor in the NFL.
