Tulane Green Wave senior linebacker Trent Mackey has been suspended by the university indefinitely following his arrest Friday for armed robbery.

Mackey, who was named Conference USA’s preseason Defensive Player of the Year, was initially named as a victim in the initial incident has now been recognized as the person who conspired to plan the robbery along with an accomplice in Robert Murray, according to a police report. Mackey was listed as victim of a robbery in a previous New Orleans Police Dept. report as his cell phone and backpack had been stolen from the home of a female friendback on July 12.

Tulane University released a statement on the allegations with Mackey:

“Trent Mackey, a senior from Port Sulphur, Louisiana, has been indefinitely suspended from the Tulane University football team. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) prohibits the university from providing any additional information regarding disciplinary actions, if any, toward a student.”

Mackey was recognized as Conference USA's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year as Mackey thrived in 2011 with 145 tackles. Now, Mackey becomes the second Green Wave player to find trouble and suspension after being arrested. Green Wave freshman defensive end Lawrence Burl was sent off from the program after being charged with drug and weapons possession back in May.
