Hallescher 0 - 1 Duisburg
DFB-Pokal, Round 1: Saturday Results: Borussia Dortmund Win, Hoffenheim Suffer Embarrassing Defeat
The match was close throughout, but Duisburg picked up a 1-0 victory thanks to a 17th minute penalty from Goran Sukalo after Maurice Exslager was fouled in the area by Hallescher’s Jan Benes. Adli Lachheb almost doubled the lead in the 81st minute, but his shot hit the woodwork. Duisburg would have liked a better performance in hopes that it would translate over to their league form, where they’re currently bottom of the table.
Oberneuland 0 - 3 Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund made easy work of Regionalliga side FC Oberneuland and waltzed their way into the second round of the DFB Pokal. Robert Lewandowski played a perfect ball over the top to Marco Reus, and last season’s German footballer of the year opened his BVB scoring account in style by rounding the keeper and slotting the ball home. Jakub Blaszczykowski made it 2-0 before halftime with a shot that ripped into the side of the net. Ivan Perisic scored the third goal in the second half as BVb cruised to victory.
Unterhaching 1 - 2 Köln
Thomas Bröker scored a brace to see FC Köln into the second round of the cup. The goals for the visitors came in the 28th and 40th minutes. Unterhaching pushed for goals, but they wouldn’t find anything but a consolation in the 90th minute when substitute Andreas Voglsammer scored.
Falkensee-Finkenkrug 0 - 5 Stuttgart
Stuttgart made easy work of their opponents and swept to a 5-0 victory. Goal poacher extraordinaire Vedad Ibisevic scored the first at the half hour mark when he capitalized on a mistake by Falkensee-Finkenkrug goalkeeper Stefan Demuth. Martin Harnik scored a brace on either side of halftime. The hosts never quit, but Tunay Torun and Shinji Okazaki scored late to put the finishing touches on the beat down.
Victoria Hamburg 1 - 2 Freiburg
Freiburg left it late but managed to find their way into the second round of the Pokal. Victoria were awarded a penalty kick in the 6th minute, but Roger Stilz shot wide. Max Kruse made the hosts pay for the miss when he scored for Freiburg in the 11th minute. The lead barely lasted a minute when Jakob Sachs leveled. Freiburg pushed for goals, but they were unable to find the back of the net until Sebastian Freis scored in the 78th minute for the win.
Offenburger 0 - 3 St. Pauli
Everyone’s second favorite club St. Pauli put together an impressive defensive performance on their way to a clean sheet and victory. Mahir Saglik scored a brace with a shot in the first half and a header in the second. Daniel Ginczek made it 3-0 with a goal in the 77th.
Alemannia Aachen 0 - 2 Borussia Mönchengladbach
They left it late, but Borussia Mönchengladbach received second half goals from Juan Arango and Havard Nordtveit to go through to the next round. New signing Luuk de Jong struggled in the first half and was rarely involved. Gladbach will need more from their big signing as they go forward.
Carl Zeiss Jena 0 - 4 Bayer Leverkusen
Bayer Leverkusen had no struggles in their first round matchup against Carl Zeiss Jena. Simon Rolfes opened the scoring after only a few minute when he smashed home a rebound of a Karim Bellarabi shot. Bellarabi doubled the lead in the 16th minute finishing a pass from Andre Schürrle. Stefan Kießling and Junior Fernandes scored goals late in the second half to put the game far out of reach.
Berliner AK 4 - 0 Hoffenheim
Saturday's upset special was brought to us courtesy of Hoffenheim. Berliner AK defeated Hoffenheim 4-0 in the largest margin of victory ever for a fourth division club over a Bundesliga club in the contest. Metin Cakmak struck in the 3rd minute for AK when the midfielder smashed a loose ball past Tim Wiese. Justin Gerlach doubled the lead at the half hour mark when he slotted the ball past Wiese to make it 2-0. AK kept pushing and made it 3-0 before halftime thanks to Kevin Kruschke. Losing 3-0 at halftime to a fourth division side didn't spark any emotion from The Hoff, and Cakmak made it 4-0 just after halftime. The loss is an embarrassing one for Markus Babbel's side, and it will be interesting to see how this translates to league play next weekend.
Heidenheim 0 - 2 Bochum
Zlatko Dedič scored twice to see VfL Bochum through to the second round of the Pokal. His first came in the 5th minute when he scored on a pass from Alexander Iashvili. Bochum let Heidenheim have the ball for long stretches in the match. Their lack of pressing didn’t come back to haunt them, and they added a second with Dedič found the back of the net in the 41st. Heidenheim continued to press their attack, but they couldn’t put the final touches together and find a goal.
Schönberg 0 - 5 Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg dominated FC Schönberg thanks to an impressive display from new man Ivica Olic. Olic started the scoring in the 28th minute when he scored on a rebound off the post. His second came just two minutes later when he headed home a cross from Fagner. Diego made it 3-0 just before halftime with a nice one-two with Bas Dost. Dost and Olic scored numbers four and five in the 66th and 67th minutes. The win is a important for Wolfsburg after last year’s embarrassing loss to RB Leipzig in the first round.
Kickers Offenbach 1 - 0 Greuther Fürth
Offenbach took the lead in the 28th minute on a penalty by Thomas Rathgeber after a controversial decision by the referee to award it. The ball struck the elbow of Bernd Nehrig while it was tucked into his stomach. Offenbach’s Lars Bender scored in stoppage time to complete the victory and make Greuther Fürth the second Bundesliga side eliminated in the first round today.
