Miami Dolphins Head Coach Joe Philbin has today announced that rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill will start the Dolphins preseason game against the Falcons on Friday night, and confirmed he will keep the role against the Texans in week one.
Ryan Tannehill Named Dolphins Starter

Reports of Tannehill impressing in camp have been surfacing throughout the summer, but it was thought he would start the season on the bench behind veterans David Garrard and Matt Moore. Garrard had won the starting position until he went down injured before the start of preseason. It was then believed Moore would take over, but it appears as though Tannehill has beaten him out.
For Tannehill, things couldn’t have been set up any better if he did it himself. Matt Barkley went back to college, leaving him as the third best quarterback available in April’s draft. Then the Dolphins hired his college head coach, Mike Sherman as their offensive coordinator. With no clear incumbent, the job was up for grabs, and then the veteran who won the job went down injured.
So things have played out in Tannehill’s favor so far, but can he take his momentum onto the field and get results? The Dolphins still have big questions at receiver, and with Chad Johnson gone, the lack of a number one receiver becomes even more evident.
