It looked to be a chance for a strong pitching duel before the game started, and that’s what the fans got as the Giants took on the Dodgers in a game with big division implications on Monday.

It was indeed a strong pitching duel on Monday night in Game 1 of the Giants' series against the Dodgers, but San Francisco took the victory thanks to two runs chipped off of Clayton Kershaw by Pablo Sandoval in the first and sixth innings.

Madison Bumgarner put on a masterclass performance, striking out 10 while allowing only four scattered hits. The only blemish on the pitching record for the Giants on the evening was a frightening one -- up 2-0 in the ninth inning, Hanley Ramirez hit a home run off of Sergio Romo, but the Giants managed to hold onto the lead and take the 2-1 win home from Dodger Stadium.

The Giants have taken over first place in the NL West with their win on Monday night and will have chances to increase their lead on Tuesday and Wednesday in the final two games of the series.
