It might have been the best pitchers duel all season long, even if nobody saw it.
Price + Hochevar = Eggs
Tuesday night in St. Petersburg, Cy Young candidate David Price pitched brilliantly: 8 shutout innings, 3 hits, 8 strikeouts, no walks. But Kansas City's Luke Hochevar -- like Price, once the first pick in the whole draft -- pitched just as brilliantly: 8 shutout innings, 1 hit, 3 walks, 10 strikeouts. Their combined Game Score: 171.
How impressive is that? Your answer after the jump ...
It’s just the third time all season that both starting pitchers posted a Game Score of at least 80.
In June, Zack Greinke (84) and Chris Sale (80) combined for a 164 Duel Score. And way back in April, Cliff Lee (85) and Matt Cain (86) combined for a 171 Duel Score in this game. Both Lee and Cain got no-decisions in that one, even though Lee hung around for 10 innings.
Price and Hochevar got no-decisions, too. But the Royals won in the 10th, thanks to an error and a bloop hit.
