Sunderland are splashing the cash on Friday, having added two very good attacking players in one day. First, Steven Fletcher arrived at the Stadium of Light, and he's being joined by now-former Manchester City winger Adam Johnson. The 25-year-old Johnson has plenty of experience, having made 120 appearances for Middlesborough and 97 appearances for City in his time with those two clubs. He has also represented England 11 times.
Adam Johnson Moves From Manchester City To Sunderland
England winger Adam Johnson has signed for Sunderland.
Johnson arrived during City’s early infusion of talent, and has found himself marginalized as the team has transformed from a top-four contender into a title contender. He likely would have kept a place as a regular bench option for City this season, but they had no reason not to let him go if they had a chance to make a profit on him, which they have probably managed to do. Both his transfer fee from Middlesborough and to Sunderland were undisclosed.
What Sunderland are going to do with Johnson and their other players who can play wide remains to be seen. Sebastian Larsson and Stephane Sessegnon are versatile and can play in multiple positions, but one of them or Jack Colback will probably have to be dropped to accommodation both Fletcher and Johnson in the lineup.
