Ray Graham | Running Back | Pittsburgh, senior | 5'9'', 190

2011 Stats: 164 rushes, 958 yards, 9 touchdowns

Games watched: Notre Dame, Rutgers, Iowa, South Florida

First Word: Ray Graham is coming off a major knee injury that he suffered in October of the 2011 season. As a result, he is not likely to be at his best in his senior year, which is a shame. He relies heavily on his quick cuts and change of direction, two things that will be difficult to regain after the knee injury. That being said, he has a whole season to prove himself and get healthy before the NFL Draft.

Strengths:

  • Ray Graham is extremely quick and makes strong cuts, leaving defenders looking foolish on many occasions.
  • Love Graham's ability to change tacklers' angles on the fly. Guys have a hard time bringing him down because he changes direction smoothly.
  • For a small running back, Graham actually has a decent amount of power. He sheds first contact on occasion and manages to maintain his momentum through broken tackles.
  • Graham is a decent pass-catcher and shows some shiftiness in the open field once the ball is in his hands.

Weaknesses:

  • Graham is coming off a season-ending knee injury, which will work against his draft stock. Playing the way he does, with quick cuts and change of direction, he may take some time to get back to full speed. We'll see if he can get his burst back at any point this season.
  • While Graham relies on his cutting, he seems to lose his footing on occasion and lack balance at times. As a result, Graham leaves yards on the field and misses some opportunities for big gains.
  • Graham needs to improve his pass blocking if he hopes to be on the field on third downs at the next level. He's pretty ineffective in this area.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
