2013 NFL Draft wide receiver rankings

Getty Images

With the college football season starting on Thursday, I realized I was quite behind on preseason rankings. In order to get them all out before the season kicks off, I’ll be posting position lists throughout the week.

Up now is wide receivers. Like many offensive skill positions, juniors rule the lot. I have juniors and seniors split, but the top four prospects at wide receiver heading into the season are juniors. Tops among them is Tennessee’s Justin Hunter. Before getting hurt in the third game of the 2011 season, Hunter showed big-play ability. He’s a solid route runner and has better size than No. 2 receiver Robert Woods of Southern California. That’s not to knock Woods, however. He’s a masterful route runner with good speed and hands.

Obviously there are some notable names missing. Look for this list to expand throughout the season. But there are some players left off purposely. For instance, everyone loves Aaron Mellette of Elon. But other than some highlights, I haven’t seen him. Also not listed are Denard Robinson of Michigan and Russell Shepard of LSU. Robinson, to me, remains a mystery – especially after what we saw Robert Griffin turn into last year. Shepard has been little more than a hype project and red flags. Da’Rick Rogers of Tennessee was also left off the juniors list while he serves an indefinite suspension.

Find the full list after the jump and let me know what you think.
