The Seattle Seahawks have decided to start rookie quarterback Russell Wilson in week one against the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Pete Carroll.

Wilson, a third round pick in this past draft, beat out Matt Flynn and the recently traded Tavaris Jackson for the starting job thanks some impressive preseason passing numbers (464 yards, five touchdowns, one interception). The former Wisconsin Badger standout also added 140 yards on the ground with additional touchdown.

The news comes on the heels of Wilson's successful debut as a starter over the Kansas City Chiefs in which he threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

Wilson is also expected to start Thursday's preseason finale against the Oakland Raiders for one final tune up. After that, he will look to be the second consecutive first-year quarterback to tear up the Cardinals in week one, following in Cam Newton's 2011 footsteps.
