Johnny Damon waited a long time before signing with any team this season. Or perhaps more correctly, teams waited a long time because he was a 38-year-old mostly-DH-part-time-outfielder who'd had a decent, but nothing-special year with the Rays at age 37 in 2011.

The Indians signed him April 17; it took him a couple of weeks to get into playing shape and he didn't debut with Cleveland until May 2.

And then... not much at all. After 64 games of .222/.281/.329 performance -- a 61 OPS+ -- the Indians are cutting ties:

It doesn't seem likely that Damon will catch on anywhere else; he'll be 39 in November and his performance has been declining for the last three seasons. If this is the end, he finishes with some decent counting stats: 2,769 hits and 408 stolen bases, and a pair of World Series rings (Red Sox, 2004; Yankees, 2009).
