Allen Pinkett, a former Notre Dame All-American and NFL running back, will not be part of the Fighting Irish radio broadcast team for Notre Dame’s season opener in Ireland against Navy.

Pinkett made some comments about the Irish needing some “bad citizens” with criminal backgrounds to get back to the glory days of the program. Those comments caught the attention of the Notre Dame IMG Network, which handed down the suspension Thursday.

Pinkett apologized Wednesday, according to this report, but it was too late. He was vilified in the media and school officials immediately disagreed with and refuted his comments.

So Pinkett spoke his mind, and the consequence is that he does not get to do the Irish game in Dublin. It’s unclear if he’ll be back on the air after Saturday’s game.
