Giandomenico Mesto Signs For Napoli From Genoa

Napoli have quite likely sealed a transfer deadline day deal, bringing in Giandomenico Mesto from Genoa to provide cover for Christian Maggio at right back. It's unlikely that the 30-year-old will ever replace the strength and speed of Maggio, but alas, sometimes he manages to get himself hurt. Last season, the partenopei were forced to use Camilo Zuniga as backup, but having just one wing-back for both sides was putting a bit too much pressure on the side. So while this move won't set the world alight, it's a good bit of business for Napoli.

With Mesto out, the rossoblu are set to bring in Damiano Ferronetti, a left-back / defensive midfielder most recently with Udinese. Ferronetti briefly signed with Torino this summer, but managed just two weeks there before a falling out with Giampiero Ventura forced him to seek other pastures.

And no, I’m not really sure how replacing a right-back with a left-back works, but you know...Genoa must know what’s going on.
