The quarterback controversy in Arizona is finally coming to an end as the Cardinals have decided to start John SkeltonWeek 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL reporter and radio host Adam Caplan.
John Skelton To Start Week 1 For Cardinals
Early reports are claiming that the Cardinals have settled on John Skelton as their Week 1 starter.
Neither Skelton or Kevin Kolb played in last night's final exhibition game against the Denver Broncos, but apparently head coach Ken Whisenhunt had already seen everything necessary to make his decision.
Last season, Skelton was 5-2 as a starter and also picked up a memorable late-season win over the San Francisco 49ers after Kolb suffered a concussion on the team's first series.
This preseason though, neither quarterback has particularly stood out. Skelton has completed 14-of-25 passes for 131 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions compared to Kolb’s 59.5% completion percentage (22-of-37), 203 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
It’s a bold move by the Cardinals to overlook the large investment they placed in Kolb and choose who they feel can best lead them to victory, but odds are Kolb still gets his chance sometime this season. No announcement has been officially been made by the team though so stay tuned in for Whisenhunt’s press conference at 5 p.m. EST.
