The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired outfielder Ben Francisco from the Houston Astros, in exchange for future considerations. According to Marc Topkin, it's "a small deal to improve their depth."
Rays Trade For Astros Outfielder Ben Francisco

Yeah, no kidding. From 2010 through Thursday, Francisco had batted just .252/.325/.390 in 634 plate appearances. And it's difficult to see where Francisco fits, considering that the Rays already have a number of right-handed hitters who can play multiple positions. And it's not like management never makes a mistake; this is the same team that gave 103 plate appearances to Hideki Matsui.
Regardless, Francisco will be added to the roster before Sunday, making him eligible for the Rays’ postseason roster. Though considering their recent performance, a postseason berth is beginning to look somewhat unlikely.
