I know when I go to the gym, the rowing machine is rarely being used. That’s probably for a couple reasons. First, guys don’t realize how good the machine is at building muscle while at the same time burning fat. Second, they just don’t know the proper technique to build a physique like some of the guys taking the medal podium this week.
That’s why Men’s Journal tapped photographer John Loomis for a photo shoot of the proper technique. They also recruited members of the U.S. Men’s Eight to demonstrate. Twins Ross James and Grant James (pictured here) talk about the motivating factor of competition. David Banks shared his key for success on the rowing machine:
“Relax everything - your face, your shoulders, your neck - the key is to conserve your energy during the recovery and keep everything focused and composed.”
