LSU has a pair of scary defensive ends in Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo, and it appears the former just got a bit scarier. Montgomery has added 30 pounds to his already massive 6 foot 4 frame. He now weighs in at 275 pounds, according to Larry Hartstein of CBS Sports.
LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery has added 30 pounds this offseason

What’s even scarier is the fact that Montgomery has reportedly retained his speed despite the weight gain. At 275 pounds, Montgomery should have the ability to transition to 4-3 defensive end in the NFL. Holding the point of attack was a strength of his even before this added mass. Now, he should be even more of a handful for SEC offensive lines all season long.
Montgomery is far from a finished product, but this is exactly the type of step forward he needed to make. He has a real chance to be a top ten pick if his development continues.
