Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde injured his MCL in Saturday's win over Central Florida, and he is ruled out for the Buckeyes' upcoming game in Columbus against California.

The injury is an MCL sprain and there was no swelling. Still, the sprain is considered serious, and he is out for this Saturday’s game, reports Land Grant Holy Land.

Hyde was the No. 2 running back in the offseason but assumed the role of No. 1 when Jordan Hall went down with a foot injury in late June. Hall, a senior, had to undergo surgery on his injured foot and has been unavailable for Ohio State’s first two games. Hall was expected to return approximately 10 weeks following the surgery, and he has now approached the end of that time table. Land Grant Holy Land reports that even though Hall has been running, however, his status for Saturday is uncertain.

With Hyde out, and if Hall cannot play, true freshman Bri'onte Dunn is expected to be Ohio State's starting running back Saturday.

Carlos Hyde had rushed 24 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns so far this season.
