Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was simply too much for Josesito Lopez tonight in their Showtime Championship Boxing clash from Las Vegas.
Much of the talk leading up to the fight was that Lopez, most at home at 140 pounds, was simply in over his head fighting the big 154 pound Canelo. And that just appeared to be the case throughout the time the two men fought tonight. Canelo repeatedly dropped Lopez, mostly through thunderous body shots, but he mixed in big flurries to the head as well.

Daniel Ponce De Leon was able to win a close technical decision over Jhonny Gonzalez on the undercard of the Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez Showtime Championship Boxing event.
The fight saw some good action, but unfortunately was marred by headbutts, one of which would cause the fight to be waived off during the eighth round.

If one wanted to remember just how much of an uphill battle Josesito Lopez has in front of him when he faces Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on Showtime, they only have to look at the current odds for the fight. Lopez is currently a +1000 underdog (meaning if you bet $100 on him, you’d win $1,000) to Alvarez as high as -2000 (you’d have to bet $2000 to win $100).
But you are talking about a guy going up from junior welterweight to junior middleweight to face a superstar. So Lopez’s long odds seem correct.
