Japan won in early action in Asia, while South Korea drew. In the late match, Australia were terrible in a loss to Jordan.

The Socceroos never looked like scoring until the 86th minute, when substitute Archie Thompson fired his team back into the match, assisted by Adam Baroque with a nice touch on the edge of the penalty area. Australia pushed forward for an equalizer, but it never came Jordan defended brilliantly for the rest of the match to hold on to the victory.

Iraq goalkeeper Noor Sabri was brilliant in the second half and kept his team in the match until the very end, but Iraq was unable to find the back of the net to steal a point on the road.
Japan are only halfway done with the final stage of qualifying, but could lock up a berth in the World Cup as soon as the next international break, if they win their next match and things break their way in other matches.
