Tuesday night, the Baltimore Orioles lost right-handed starter Jason Hammel during their game against the Tampa Bay Rays, as Hammel suffered an injury to his right knee. It happened in the top of the fourth inning, as Hammel threw a pitch and then had a funny hop off of the mound. He was pulled from the game immediately.
Orioles’ Jason Hammel Leaves Start With Injury
Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jason Hammel was pulled in the top of the fourth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays because of an apparent knee injury.

If it does turn out to be a long-term knee injury, it wouldn’t be Hammel’s first. Back in July, he had arthroscopic surgery on that same right knee to remove a piece of cartilage, and missed seven weeks of action. When he has been able to pitch, Hammel has been one of the Orioles’ few dependable starters, going 8-6 with a 3.46 ERA this season.
Baltimore replaced Hammel with Steve Johnson following the injury. At the time, the Orioles led the Rays 3-1 in a game that weighs heavily in the Wild Card standings.
