Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo Exits After Violent Collision

Anthony Rizzo left Tuesday night’s game after a collision at first base, but is reportedly feeling okay.

Presswire

Chicago Cubs first basemen Anthony Rizzo left Tuesday night's game vs. the Houston Astros after colliding with Houston first baseman Brett Wallace. Rizzo hit a ground ball to second base in the top of the third inning, but the throw by Houston's Jimmy Paredes was high, forcing Wallace to jump for the ball. In the process, his right leg swung backwards, hitting Rizzo.

Rizzo, in turn, stepped on first base awkwardly, with his left leg fully extended. That propelled him into the air, and he landed on his right shoulder a few feet past first base. Here is video of the play:

Rizzo left the game under his own power after Chicago’s trainers worked on his left knee for a few minutes. The Chicago Tribune’s Paul Sullivan reported that Rizzo, despite a sore shoulder, feels fine after the collision.
