The Detroit Tigers pulled within one game of the Chicago White Sox in the A.L. Central on Wednesday night, as the Tigers downed Chicago 8-6 on the road. Max Scherzer (16-6) struck out seven over six innings for the Detroit victory.
Tigers Beat White Sox 8-6, Cut Lead To 1 Game
A three-run homer from Prince Fielder helped the Tigers pull within one game of Chicago.


Prince Fielder hit a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning off Leyson Septimo to put the game away. Andy Dirks and Miguel Cabrera set the table for Fielder's blast, which marks his 26th of the year.
The White Sox made it a game again in the bottom of the eighth when Kevin Youkilis hit his 17th home run, a three-run shot to left field. Alex Rios even helped engineer a run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Sox still fell short.
Chicago (76-66) is set to put lefty Chris Sale (16-6, 2.88 ERA) on the mound tomorrow in the final game of the series. The Tigers will turn to Justin Verlander (13-8, 2.91 ERA) as they attempt to pull into a tie for the division lead.
