In the bottom of the fourth inning of Thursday night's game between the Blue Jays and Mariners, Edwin Encarnacion hit his 40th home run of the season. The towering second-deck shot to left-center field capped a five-run inning for the Blue Jays and gave them a 7-2 lead over the Mariners and starter Felix Hernandez. With Brett Lawrie and Colby Rasmus on base ahead of him, Encarnacion also broke the 100-RBI mark with the blast, driving in RBIs 100, 101 and 102.

It has been a breakout year for the 29-year-old slugger, who is finally capitalizing on the potential that made him a top prospect in the Reds system several years ago. He was acquired by the Blue Jays at the trade deadline in 2009 in exchange for Scott Rolen. The breakout season earned him a lucrative contract extension, as he signed a 3-year, $27million deal on July 12 of this year.
