New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has tied Willie Mays for the tenth spot on the all-time MLB hits list with a RBI single in the seventh inning of Thursday's game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. It is the 3,283rd hit of his career.

Jeter achieved the milestone with a soft fly ball to center field off Red Sox reliever Junichi Tazawa.

The 38-year-old shortstop was included in the lineup batting leadoff and as the designated hitter after hurting his left ankle while lunging for first base in Wednesday’s contest, leaving in the eighth inning.

Jeter has played while dealing with a bone bruise, appearing in 141 of 143 games this year.

Mays had 3,283 hits in 2,992 games over the course of a 22-year-long Hall of Fame career playing for the Giants franchise, both in New York and San Francisco, and the New York Mets. Jeter has appeared in 2,567 games in 18 seasons donning the Yankees uniform.
