New York Yankees righty Phil Hughes got his 15th win of the season after throwing 7 1/3 innings and Derek Jeter tied Willie Mays for the 10th spot on Baseball's all-time hits list, helping the Bronx Bombers defeat the Boston Red Sox 2-0 Thursday night at Boston's Fenway Park.

The Yankees keep their tie with the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the American League East. Both teams have identical records of 81 wins and 62 losses after Thursday's games.

Hughes retired the first 10 batters he faced and stayed consistent throughout his 95-pitch outing, allowing five hits, just one walk and fanning seven batters.

Rafael Soriano got his 38th save of the season, allowing just one hit and striking out one of four batters faced in an inning.

Boston starter Felix Doubront carried the loss after allowing four hits, two earned runs and five walks, striking out five in 6 1/3 innings.
