Allen Craig's seeing-eye singlebetween a diving Adrian Gonzalez and Mark Ellis brought home the deciding run in the St. Louis Cardinals' victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers' Ronald Belisario came on in relief of Paco Rodriguez in the seventh inning with two runners on and one out; he retired Matt Holliday before allowing Shane Robinson to score on Craig's squibber.
Cardinals Beat Dodgers, Retain Lead For Second Wild Card
The Cardinals fend off a tie for the second wild card by defeating the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an Adrian Gonzalez RBI double to left-center field in the first inning, but that was the only run St. Louis starter Lance Lynn would give up in his six innings of work. The Dodgers managed five hits off Lynn while striking out seven times and walking twice.
Yadier Molina spearheaded the charge both at and behind the dish for the Cardinals, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and throwing out a pair of runners. Skip Schumaker and Carlos Beltran each recorded a pair of hits.
Josh Beckett allowed seven hits in 5⅓ innings and struck out six in a no-decision.
