Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain might miss the remainder of the season, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. Cain was diagnosed with grade II strain in his right hamstring, which means that the prospects of a return this year are slim to none. He left Thursday's game against the Minnesota Twins in the 10th inning after straining the hamstring while trying to catch what became a double by Alexi Casilla.

Kansas City recalled outfielder Jason Bourgeois from Triple-A Omaha, and he was placed in the lineup for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

"We’ll platoon him and David Lough out there in center," manager Ned Yost said. "That’s what we’ve got."

Bourgeois batted .333 in 19 games in two previous stints with the Royals this season. He was acquired in a trade with the Houston Astros with veteran catcher Humberto Quintero.

Cain is batting .266 with 59 hits in 222 plate appearances, with nine doubles, seven home runs, and 31 RBI in 61 games this season.
