The Cleveland Indians rallied in the ninth inning to beat the Detroit Tigers, 7-6, after a wild back-and-forth affair Sunday afternoon in Cleveland. Lonnie Chisenhall hit a walk-off single off Jose Valverde, following up on a game-tying triple by Carlos Santana earlier in the inning. Ubaldo Jimenez worked six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) while striking out two and walking three.

Detroit jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Brennan Boesch tapped a grounder back to pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. Jimenez's throw ended up down the right field line, scoring two.

The Tigers added another run on a Delmon Young single to make it 3-0 in the third inning. The Indians erased that lead with two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth to give them a 5-3 advantage.

American League MVP candidate Miguel Cabrera gave the Tigers the lead once more in the seventh inning with a big two-out, three-run home run. It was his 38th of the season.

Chisenhall’s walk-off single resulted in Valverde’s fifth blown save.

The Tigers face the division-leading Chicago White Sox on Monday for the final time this season.
