Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw has an impingement of his right hip, according to a tweet by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. He will re-start his throwing program Tuesday to see if the pain persists.

Kershaw has been examined by a hip specialist who says the southpaw can keep on throwing without risking damage to his hip. However, the organization is not taking chances: If the pain persists, Kershaw will stay off the mound according to the Associated Press.

Dr. Bryan Kelly saw Kershaw in New York and agreed with team physician Neal ElAttrache, who found that Kershaw’s joint is pinched during the hip’s rotation during his pitching motion.

After an initial report suggesting Kershaw might have been sidelined for the rest of 2012 and possibly until next May, it looks like Kershaw’s chances of returning are improving. But the Dodgers will handle the issue with caution and will keep a close eye on his throwing sessions.
