Josh Gatt Out Of USMNT Qualifiers With Hamstring Injury

Josh Gatt, one of the United States' brightest young talents, finally got his first senior national team call-up for the USMNT's World Cup qualifying matches against Jamaica. The excitement over his first spell with the team lasted all of 10 minutes. Gatt has already pulled out of the team with a hamstring injury.

Gatt was unlikely to start, but very likely to get some time off the bench at right wing (or in an emergency, right back) during the next two qualifiers. Unfortunately, Klinsmann already has to phone up a replacement. Why U.S. Soccer released a roster and the news of Gatt’s injury dropped mere minutes later is difficult to figure out.

Landon Donovan is not on the roster due to an injury, so the United States was already a bit thin out wide. DaMarcus Beasley has been playing regularly for Puebla and could get the call from Klinsmann. Sacha Kljestan and Chris Pontius are other potential candidates for a call-up, if Klinsmann wants to replace Gatt with someone who has experience playing as a winger and who is currently getting playing time with their club team. Alejandro Bedoya, another potential candidate, is not playing regularly for Helsingborgs.
