Kentucky Welcomes the Nationwide Series: The Kentucky 300 Preview

Getty Images for NASCAR

Seven races remain in the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series and 2011 Nationwide Champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr holds a nine point lead over 2011 Nationwide Most Popular Driver Elliott Sadler. Sadler is coming off a few poor weeks, and Stenhouse has won two of the last three races. This is exactly what Nascar needed. The top two drivers winning five and four races respectively. This slugfest could come down to the final race of the year.

All 43 teams entered will make the race. Just a few notes this week:

  • #8- It’s the return of Scott Lagasse Jr. Lagasse drove for Mike Curb last year in the #43 team before sponsorship ran out. Lagasse was running pretty well before Curb sold to Richard Petty.
  • #10- Jeff Green is AWOL this week as Charles Lewandowski takes over for the Start and Park team.
  • #18- Drew Herring will get a chance for Joe Gibbs this week.
  • #22- Fresh off becoming the youngest Truck Series winner, Ryan Blaney will run for Penske racing. Blaney is quickly making a name for himself. Expect more out of the young second generation driver.
  • #33- Brendan Gaughan will make another start for Richard Childress. Gaughan is still trying to find a foothole after many failed attempts at full time racing.

Tune in 7pm eastern for the live running of the Kentucky 300 on ESPN2! Enjoy!
