Neither Manchester United and or Liverpool is particularly strong or filled with players who regularly break up play through the middle, so it should come as little surprise that their match has been fairly wide open at the start. There have been chances early at both ends, with Liverpool going close twice.
Liverpool Vs. Manchester United: Chances On Both Ends
Ryan Giggs had Manchester United's best chance of the opening 15 minutes with a drive that went just wide in the 7th minute. Liverpool, who have had a lot more of the ball in the early going, fought back with two more chances of their own. Steven Gerrard had the best chance of the day following a corner kick, but like Giggs, missed just wide on his attempt. In the 14th minute, Luis Suarez played Fabio Borini through on goal, setting up a great opportunity, but Borini's first touch was poor and took away his good shooting angle. He took a shot from a bad one anyone, and Anders Lindegaart was able to save.
