The passing of NFL Films' Steve Sabol rocked the football world this week, and the NFL fittingly honored the man who made even bad football interesting for a long, long time. The video tribute seen on NFL Network before the Thursday night Giants-Panthers game was played before each of the early games on Sunday, focusing on what Sabol always did most: the highlights.

The video ended with one of Sabol’s most memorable quotes, “Life is great, football is better.” I’m sure seeing the tribute on the video boards with the rumbling of the powerful NFL Films soundtrack in the background at NFL stadiums around the country was powerful and moving.
I used to look forward to watching a different NFL Films tape each week on gameday, and can’t even quantify the number of hours I’d spend watching team after team, year after year during marathons as a kid. Sabol will be missed by football fans everywhere, but his legacy and impact are definitely noticeable.
