Tigers acquire Greg Ross

The Detroit Tigers have acquired minor-league pitcher Greg Ross from the Atlanta Braves.

Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The Detroit Tigers have acquired right-hander Greg Ross from the Atlanta Braves as the player to be named later in the Aug. 31 trade that sent utility player Jeff Baker to the Braves, the team has announced.

The 23-year-old Ross was an 18th-round draft pick by Atlanta out of Frostburg State University, Maryland, in 2011. The tall right-hander spent all of this season at Single-A Rome, putting up a 4.60 earned-run average with a 2.65 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 131 innings. Ross has primarily worked as a starting pitcher, but four of his 25 appearances this year came out of the bullpen.

On the other side of the deal, Baker has played in 10 games for the Braves, appearing primarily as a pinch-hitter and making just two starts in left field. Atlanta had until the end of this week, Sept. 30, to name the player they would send in return for Baker’s services.
