A’s beat Rangers, 3-2, in 10 innings

The Oakland Athletics topped the Texas Rangers in 10 innings on the strength of George Kottaras’ upper-deck blast.

The Oakland Athletics took one step closer to nailing down a playoff spot with their 3-2 extra-inning win over the Texas Rangers Tuesday night.

Tommy Milone pitched six solid innings, giving up six hits and no walks. The bullpen threw four innings of one-hit relief, and Evan Scribner recorded his first big-league win.

The Rangers jumped on Milone in the first inning, scoring two runs on a Josh Hamilton single that got past Brandon Moss in right field and left Hamilton on third base.

Milone would settle down after that, though, as the potent Rangers lineup failed to plate another run. The A's would answer with a run of their own in the second inning, as Daric Barton doubled home Moss. Chris Carter tied it in the fourth with a solo home run.

With the game tied at 2-2 heading into the 10th inning, catcher George Kottaras led off with a prodigious home run that reached the upper deck in right field on an extremely windy night. Grant Balfour pitched a perfect bottom half of the inning, with two strikeouts, to nail down the save.
