The New York Yankees offense was silenced Thursday night at Rogers Center by a display of sharp pitching from the Toronto Blue Jays, suffering a 6-0 loss which trimmed their lead in the AL East to one game over the Baltimore Orioles.

Brandon Morrow had his best outing since coming off the disabled list, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out three. Brad Lincoln and Darren Oliver combined for an inning of work each, keeping a tight grip on the Bronx Bombers. The only Yankees who recorded hits were Robinson Cano, who went 3-for-4 with a double; and Russell Martin, who had two hits in four plate appearances.

Brett Lawrie shot a two-run blast in the bottom of the third, and Edwin Encarnacion drove in three runs: two with a double in the bottom of the fifth, and another in the seventh with a grounder to short, scoring Lawrie, who got on base with a single.

The Blue Jays scored one more in the eighth with a solo home run by J.P. Arencibia, his 18th of the season, off reliever David Aardsma.

Ivan Nova carried with his eighth loss this year, after allowing four earned runs off six hits, with two walks and four strikeouts in 4⅔ innings.
