Billy Hunter is the executive director of the National Basketball Players’ Association. He has overseen two lockouts and, last season, eventually gave back hundreds of millions of dollars annually from the players to the owners after tense negotiation. His successes as director, if they can be so called, have led him to receive a 25-percent raise over the previous year, according to labor documents filed by the NBPA.

Amid the lockout and scrutiny over nepotism, NBPA Executive Director Billy Hunter received a 25-percent pay increase.

Hunter is still under investigation by an independent law firm hired by the NBPA and the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office, according to USA Today, over his hiring and investment practices as director. Two of his daughters, Robyn Hunter and Megan Inaba, have management positions with the NBPA and, under Hunter’s guidance the NBPA had looked into investing $7 to $9 million with an investment bank of which his son, Todd, served on the board of directors.
Hunter was paid $3 million from July 1 of last year to June 30 this year, according to the filing, meaning the $600,000 pay raise came either before, during, or immediately after the lockout that shortened the season. Hunter has been executive director for 16 years, longer than any chief of major American sports league.
