Braves 2, Mets 0: Minor shuts down Mets

The Braves defeated the Mets 2-0 behind a strong effort from Mike Minor for their 92nd win.

Martin Prado scored in the first inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Jason Heyward to give the Atlanta Braves a 1-0 lead over the New York Mets. That was all the Braves would need as Mike Minor and four relievers combined for a five-hit shutout against the Mets on Saturday.

Prado would give the Braves a 2-0 lead in the fifth with an RBI double. Meanwhile, Minor was dealing. He allowed three hits over 6 ⅓ innings to improve to 11-10 on the season. He has won his last five decisions. Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth to pick up his 41st save. Chipper Jones, who is playing his final regular-season series in Atlanta, was 0-4.

Mets starter Chris Young pitched well, allowing only the two runs over his six innings, but the Mets offense couldn’t take advantage of the strong effort.

With the victory the Braves moved to 92-66 and have already clinched the top wild card slot in the National League.
